Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
I am looking for pics with 67-72 c-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat. With rear coil springs are even better. I noticed on my 69 c10 when I am standing on the tailgate rear end drops about 8-10" and I weight maybe 170lbs. I am trying to see if I have enough truck to tow. Thanks

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
That seems like a lot of drop for 170 lbs. Here is a picture of a C-10 with a complete cab in the bed which weighs over 500 lbs. and it did not drop that much, (it has the original rear springs in it in this pic).

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
No pics. But,I installed Air Lift bags in my rear coils and it gives 1,500# extra capacity for under $100.I also got new 3/4t coils whick brought it up to about $200.The truck was being used in my contracting business and had a Reading steel tool cap,ladders/scaffold,and tools loaded at all times. You could ride it with amount of air for desired ride. They definately make a hauler out of a 1/2t without altering the ride when empty, except you could tune-out body roll if desired.

I pulled this trailer with just furniture on it and it did just fine, but i will be putting some sort of air bag. either a seperate bag or the type that goes inside the rear coil springs. oh and it has a 5.3l/4l60e that i will start in a week or so

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
Here's a pic of my old GMC with a cab in the back... gave it about a 2 inch drop, and also my longhorn towing a boat, but it's a one ton with leafs and built for hauling, not having hauling as an afterthought.

8 to 10 inch drop just from sitting on the gate? Wow, You must have no shocks and springs out of a bic pen out back.

Here's mine with a helluva load on her. Ford 9n tractor with brushhog, 3-4"x4"'s, 3- bags of sackcrete, deer feeder on the trailer. And misc. items, plus disc in the bed. I had the tractor pulled a bit too far forward in the pic. I moved it back a little bit on the return trip, and got an extra 10mph out of her.

Always love seeing those old trucks still at it!

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
I don't have coils but here mine boat has about 400 pounds of tongue weight and I load the truck with camping gear and wood. It doesn't even drop down to level.

Rear suspension looks factory. I dont know about rusted yellow shocks. I believe PO changed shocks long time ago. What would be better in a long run to change springs or add airbags inside the springs?

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
if im looking at that right you have car springs.. on truck springs, the 3 middle coils almost touch. my 69 had car springs put in it before i bought it, but here is it with about 1200-1600 lbs on it, and unloaded

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
Picture one is a buddy from France right before we left to go fishing. I pull my glass bass boat all the time.
The truck also works good to push the dock in the lake. Sorry it ain't coil springs. I think all 4x4s have leaf springs.

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
I am not an expert by any means, but it looks like you have over-load springs(leaf) mounted behind your axle which should give you plenty of load capacity.
An easy way to go is with heavier progressive coil springs to get more weight carrying capacity. Danny |

Your coils do look much smaller then the ones I just took off my 1/2 ton. The SPID code in the glove box lists them as HD coils. I don't have the overload leafs on my either. Interesting... BTW, you are welcomed to my HD rear coils but you have to come get them in San Diego.

I'm 300lbs, when I sit on our 72 LWB coil spring trucks tailgate, it goes down about 2".

Re: Pics with 67-72 C-10s pulling a car trailer or a boat?
I built this truck just to tow the boat and it don't sag even fully loaded with firewood and all the camping gear. Its got 3/4 ton springs with overloads. Bad thing it will rattle your teeth when its empty.
