Caddy 472 and Turbo 400...questions

I have a line on a cheap ($200) Caddy 472 with a Turbo 400 trans attached to it...he mentions the air pump is tied up (need to clarify what he means and see how difficult it is to resolve that).

Anybody install one of these? Any difference in the install from the Caddy 500?

Any Gotchas to consider? Anybody have pix?

Thanks!

Pretty sure they have the same block as a 500 & you should talk to Andy (longhornman) about the install, as he has one in his longhorn

But here is my drag truck with a 500 in it
Its been modded a lot, has a 3-1/2" Z in the front & has custom engine stands, so its prolly a lil different that what you would have to do)

Re: Caddy 472 and Turbo 400...questions

I have installed a couple of Caddy's.. the 472 is physically the same as the 500.. the only difference is the stroke.. when the owner mentions "air pump" its probably the smog pump that is seized. I would just remove it unless your state makes you have one.

The one "gotcha" is.. You either need an "Eldorado" oil pan or a custom one. The normal rear wheel drive caddy has a front sump pan and will not clear your crossmember,

Here are a few pictures you might take a peek at on a build thread with a Suburban.
