i just recently acquired a 67 swb that has the crossmember swap out of a 73-87 in it, i was wondering,ive heard rumors that rotors from a caprice will fit on these spindles giving you a 5 lug car pattern. is this true?

Last time I was looking into that I found out Caprices had 5x5 pattern just like the trucks. Same as Crown Vics/Town Cars having 5x5.I believe you have to take a rotor to a machine shop to index a smaller pattern like 5x4.75. Im sure I will be corrected on this if I mixed up my info.

caprice is that same i has the rear end out of one so i have rear disk

if it has a crossmember out of a 73-87 it should already be 5x5... and the caprice is 5x5...

so.... what are you trying to accomplish here?

Some of the early 70's vans had a 4 3/4" bolt circle.....I have not heard if the rotors will swap tho..... crazyL

Raising the dead here- but for a good cause...

I found through some searching that when GM created the '81-up light duty(LD) trucks, they used big car 1" thick front rotors. The rotors are the same part number as the B-body(Caprice, Impala, Fleetwood, etc) w/ the 12" rotors- this was an upgrade for them- usually found on cop cars or wagons...

Knowing this- I also found that in the G-body(Monte Carlo, Regal, etc.), 2nd generation Camaro, and S-10 truck world, it is common practice to swap from their puny stock 10.5" brakes to 12" front rotors using B-body(big car) spindles. The way they get the 5-on-4.75 bolt pattern is by using '87-'92 Camaro 1LE brake rotors, which are the big car(or light truck) rotors with a small car bolt pattern.

What this means for us is if you have the LD brake package on your truck, either factory or swapped(like me), you can change to 5x4.75 bolt pattern up front for the cost of a new set of rotors, which I found at Advance Auto for $26 each.

Don't you just love GM's parts bin sharing tactics?

But one thing to keep in mind

IIRC most drop spindles are for 1-1/4" rotors... if you plan to lower it

W3rd. MOST. Belltech makes 3" drop spindles that are already installed. I've seen this topic come up quite a bit- just thought I would share a cheap solution...

A member of my Club, clipped his '59 Elco with a Caprice Interceptor 5on5.
He changed the rotor to the 1LE Z-28 Rotors to keep the 4.75.
