U joint problem?

Need some expert help. When letting foot completely off gas pedal quickly, there is a heck of a bang or slapping sound which sounds like its coming from the driveshaft area. It also does it when accelerating after coasting. There's obviously slop somewhere but I'm not sure whats causing it. U joints? And if so, how do you tell which one? How do you tell a bad u-joint? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Grab a hold of your driveshaft and shake and twist it at the u-joint,and watch what the u-joint is doing... if it doesnt move at all its good ...any slop it needs replaced...watch where the slop is coming from if the u-joint is good ...could be play in your carrier, pinion bearing,or slip yoke of the trans. A fair amount of play is tolerable I've been told (1/4 twist of the driveshaft before wheels start rocking).

My opinion is that if you find one that is bad go ahead and replace both of them while you are at it, what kind of drive shaft is in the truck is it in one peice or two , if it is a two peice drive shaft you could have a bad swing bearing
