project burb
Hi all I saw a burb at the goodguys car show this weekend and Im thinking about getting involved but I wanted a second opinion. Its a 71 gmc 1500 supercustom. It has a factory big block 402 and factory air. The engine was supposedly rebuilt 25k ago and the factory air has been taking down and the rest of the interior was striped but as far as I can tell all the a/c parts and interior panels and trim are there(big pile in the back). The truck runs great all the gauges work and all the glass is present and uncracked. The body is rust free( az truck its whole life supossedly) with no dents and no bondo that i could find anywhere. I did notice that it had dual tanks and according to the seller it was a factory option and the reason I mention this is that it looked like it was homemade at least to me. Oh its also a 3 door with a tailgate. The seller is asking 4500 on the account that its body is rust free and the fact that it has factory big block and air plus its a 3 door which he told me that those options are rare. So my question is are these options rare??? Is that a fair price for this truck and is it a good start for a resto project???
Thanks guys. |

Re: project burb
Welcome! Every 67-72 suburban was a 3 door, so that option is not "rare". If you find a 4 door, then you've found a rare one, . As far as the tanks, they were a dealer add on option. Big block and air are definitely harder to find, but they're out there. Same as with the tailgate/liftgate. GMC, 1/2 ton, BB, air, tailgate/liftgate with no rust, definitely makes it a worthwhile project......., and if it's "rust free", it definitely worth $4500. Pictures would help immensely, .

Re: project burb
To give you a comparison here is what I just bought. I just got an extremely rust free 72 chevy suburban that is factory 402 BB, factory Air, tailgate, deluxe trim and interior, posi traction rear end, with the third door as they all had. It also has that dealer installed gas tank you are talking about. Mine is still completely factory original and in tact with all the interior still in place. I paid $1750 for mine. Of course mine didnt run when I got it. Now after spending about 3-4 spare days off and a couple hundred bucks my suburban is ready to drive anywhere in the country. My total price to date with all the parts I bought still puts me at $2050.00 dollars. Now my burb is 3/4 ton and not 1/2 so there is a slight value difference there but it is something to compare it to. Also a member had a suburban on here just like the one you described except it also had factory tilt column and factory tach and he was asking $4500.

Re: project burb
Andy is right. I got a decent deal on mine because the owner really didnt know what he had. That and it was very obvious that everything he tried to "fix" on the burb he made worse. Burbboy71 I dont want you to think that the guy is trying to give you a bad deal. He is propably asking the going rate. I just wanted you to know that there are other well optioned 71-72 burbs out there and in some cases at a much lower cost (With a little luck and know how). I just dont want the seller to make you think that this is the only suburban that is out there with all of those options.
