sm465 main shaft and coupler

well i ordered a main shaft for a sm465 and a new 10 spline coupler from tbtrans.com... i got my order in a couple days and happy with there service.... the shaft was interesting to change... had to use a shop press and took me a weekend to change all this... now my truck drives alot better... heres a few pics...

heres the coupler.. the tranny side was trashed but the tcase side is ok..

I'll be looking into this soon.... I guess you didn't have a hardtime figuring out which end was toast!

How difficult was changing the main shaft?

it wasnt too hard to change.. but you do need a press to get the bushings off... as long as you keep the gears in the order they came off its not too bad...the parts for the main shaft and coupler were 150 bucks... as you could see my splines were going to break soon... the only way to tell which side is worn is to pull the tranny and look... and this is the second tranny and coupler i had do this so it must be common... i replaced the tranny before cause it had the same damage... but i didnt look at the coupler before i installed... could have saved some time..

Did you pack the splines with grease befroe reinstalling?

actually yes i did pack them with grease before install... i read on this site somewhere that it was a good idea...
