C-section under the axle?
Check out this c-notch frame under the axle. How does this work? Where would you mount the shocks & bags? If it works, why wouldn't more people do it rather than alter the bed floor?

No kidding. He's effectively built his truck around the rear axle. That thing ain't ever coming out without cutting the frame apart or gutting the truck. Not too smart.

Novel idea. I don't see much wrong with it actually. So he has to remove the bed first if he ever did have to remove the axle, so what? How often do you have to remove your rear axle once the truck is built? Basically never. I give him props for doing it different. I like it.

It's not a very common mod because it's not the best route to take. Having the framerails ABOVE the axle have far more benefits that outweigh the loss of bed space... main one being safety.
