The lowrider left me stranded today!
I had been out cruisin' today, went to wal mart and all was fine. On the way home from the store, the truck fizzled out and wouldn't start. No fuel pressure on the gauge. So I'm guessing the pump is out. Pump not making noise when the key is turned like normal. Dont know if it's a fuse but all the fuses on the panel look ok.
Had it towed home. Will dig into it next week. Kenny

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
Well that sucks. Electric pump, eh? What brand? I have a Holley blue pump... so far so good.

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
You have a carb on the BB, correct? If so, dump the electric pump and get yourself a mechanical pump.

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
oh well... no biggie... didn't have any fuses anyway or my reading glass to read the itty bitty letters on the fuse panel to see where the fuse was for the ECM anyway.. I guess I should take both next time I go out huh?

Someone recommended the Mr. Gasket pump at Advanced Auto and a couple filters inline in place of the factory pump which is the tank now. Ken

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
Are you using a "By-Pass" regulator? If not, the pump will heat up. A By-Pass reg will keep fuel flowing back to the tank and into the pump, cooler pump.

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
Wasn't sure, I remember the build up thread. I was just too lazy to look for it. LOL.
Oh well, I blew a fuse for my pump a while back, roll-back time. LOL. Planning on going mechanical soon.

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
I'd have to go back to the thread and see why I elected not to use the holley mechanical pump.. I still have it.

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
Well, I talked to my mechanic today who I use when I get into something over my head or don't have time to mess with. He said that the fuel pump only pumps 9-13 psi. I've also noticed some electrical issues when I turn on the turn signal. I found that when they stop working, so do the electric windows.
I'm not convinced there's not a wiring issue in the harness.. maybe a short somewhere and or maybe a bad ignition switch. I did notice the other day I moved the key and every light on the dash, went black and the engine even stuttered for a half a second. Thoughts??

Re: The lowrider left me stranded today!
UPDATE: Found the problem, finally!
I finally got the time to take truck to the shop and get it up on a lift. We started looking for wiring problems first. We found the fuel pump wiring harness on the left side had fallen down on top of the muffler and welded itself to it. Everytime, I'd put a fuse in, it'd blow. So, 1 problem solved. Started the truck and got it up to temp. Revved it a couple times and blew the circuit again. Chased harness, no other problems noted. Fuel pump is bad as it pulls major amps and blows circuit in the process. Installed a new Holley HiPerf manual pump on the block without the regulator. Pulls 12lbs of pressure through the existing electrical pump still in the tank. Had to put the regulator back in line and regulate the pressure back down to 5-7 lbs for the carb. Runs like a champ!
