Will a 700r4 require new driveshaft?
My 68 has a powerglide in it now, but I want to swap for an overdrive tranny. Will going to a 700r4 change the driveshaft length?

Yes, 700r4 is quite a bit longer. Shaft will need shortened, not that expensive to have done.

You have a shortbed, go to your local wrecking yard and pull a driveshaft out of a 90ish shortbed Chevy truck with the auto trans. This will be right on for your swap. I did this, bolted right in, yolk too.

What 67shortie said. I was just reading up on this same issue and ran across a thread where a board member suggested that if you have a shortbed, find a 90's model swb with an auto tranny at the junkyard and the drive shaft will work.

Thanks again guys. I assume that an auto tranny in a 90's model SWB truck will be a 700r4/4L60?
