bag help. basic kit, going lower?
I've got a basic bag kit on the 68 I'm putting togeather. Is there any easy way to get the front to lay crossmember? Cost effective/minor fabrication.
If so please let me know. I've searched and searched, but there's so many different options/opinions. I also only have about 1 1/4" of shock travel left so that going to have to be modified also. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions, Doug |

Do you have Drop spindles? If not that would get you 2"-3". You can also trim your lower bag cups.

Ok. 3" drop spindles and triming the cups will put me very close it looks. Whats the soluition to the shock bottoming out?
Would the airride strong arms let it lay crossmember with the stock spindles? I would think that would solve my shock problem also? Last edited by m6z; 11-29-2008 at 06:09 PM. |

you may have to do a custom upper shock mount..

I don't believe the ART arms will let the c.member get any closer to mother-earth vs. the OE arms.

Plus with a stock crossmember the lower a-arms will hit before the cross member does.

If that's your frame in the pics,... you already have drop spindles.

Smaller tires would help. The ones you have on the look pretty tall.A 265-35-22 is 29" tall.

What bags are those? Do they have internal bumpstops? Speaking of bump stops are your still in place? Another issue is you don't have any weight on the frame.

Re: bag help. basic kit, going lower?
It does look as though you have drop spindles already (the distance between your lower A-arm & your wheel is very close)
It looks to me like your bags are compressed all the way, so trimming the cups would help some Other than that you will need to mod your lower A-arms My truck with modded A-arms & no drop spindles, with something around 26 or 27" tall tires Here is my truck, same set up but with 2-1/2" drop spindles No real difference at dump other than less camber If your bags dont compress all the way then your ball joints are binding & without the weight of a engine it wont go down any further Also here is the same set up under one of my other trucks but with 26" tall tires Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 11-30-2008 at 01:02 AM. |

Re: bag help. basic kit, going lower?
Not to wade off in the middle of this, but a 2 inch pocket on a lower control arm is not going to get you 4-5 inches of additional drop. I have Suicide Door lower cups cut down to 1 1/2" thick in STOCK lower a arms and I can get my crossmember within a half inch or so of where spray bomb's is.
I agree with Spray Bomb's statement that you've got something binding that is preventing it from dropping more. I honestly believe you may have other issues to address before modding your lower a arms. Last edited by Shane; 11-30-2008 at 08:26 PM. |

I wonder if its the sway bar binding ??? But I think the main thing is that there isnt really any weight on the frame, that combined with any binding would keep it from going down Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 11-30-2008 at 10:34 PM. |

Re: bag help. basic kit, going lower?
X2 on you not having any weight on the chassis right now.
I'm curious if the stock sway bar may be limiting you a little also?

Re: bag help. basic kit, going lower?
A 160-170 lb. person can stand on the front crossmember and make a bare frame drop full stroke. At least mine did.
I still believe something has got it in a bind and holding it up. |
