Change front hubs to narrow on dually?
I've got the 78 GMC Dually chassis under my 50 GMC Bus. The front end is just a little wide. I plan to lower it with bags or spindles.
I can widen the front fenders from the inside edge about 2 inches. Does anyone know of a different hub that would bring the wheel in just a bit? I discovered that as far as the rear goes, I was able to use a Commercial dually rear end. It was 8 inches narrower, but used the same spring perches! I'll post pics later. Use the standard 3/4 ton rotor with the dually rim. They do it all the time over at www.duallyscene.com. That way they can tuck their front wheels on thier bagged duallys.

Re: Change front hubs to narrow on dually?
So, here is how its done: Use 1-ton NON-dually front hubs. They bolt on and are the correct depth (width). The problems is the 16 inch wheels won't wrok because the calipers hit the wheel--at least on my Alcoa's. A P30 Grumman stepvan (like a breadtruck or fedex) runs 19.5 inch wheels and some if not most will bolt on. They can sometimes be found for about $50 with tire each.

Re: Change front hubs to narrow on dually?
It's like Brooklyn said...you only need to do it if you plan on tucking 22"+ wheels.
...and even at that, it's purely optional. You can tuck a 22 with the DRW hubs, the SRW hubs simply allow you a bit more room to turn the wheels while aired out. |
