700r4 tranny question

how hard, and what would it take to put a 700r4 tranny in a 76 k10? or should i just go with a thm400? has a "good enough" working 350 in it now. i plan to rebuild the motor so I want something a little beefier behind the sbc.

Re: 700r4 tranny question

It is not that difficult. The cross member will need to be moved back, but the most important thing is to get the TV cable adjusted correctly. I did this change myslef a couple of weeks ago. I went from a 350 to a 700R4, I love the low first gear in the 700R4 and my 3.73 rearend likes the overdrive.

Re: 700r4 tranny question

not sure what rearend gearing i have, it is a 14 bolt. would the 700 be better than the 400 as far as off roading and 4wheeling be concerned?

Re: 700r4 tranny question

In my opinion, if all you are worried about is off roading and 4 wheeling and you have a 350 in already, I would just stick with it. If you are staying on pavement, I would go with the 700R4. Just my 2 cents, I am sure you will get different opinions on here.

Re: 700r4 tranny question

You would have a serious low gear in 4WD low, that's for sure! =)

Re: 700r4 tranny question

my question is on the same thing, i have a 700r4 in my truck now that is junked, i would like to drive my truck to the mud and trails on the highway, then when i get there have something that is dependable!! I have a 400t with all the driveshafts and axles and the t-case, what would you do??

IMO.....if you are gonna spend more time in the dirt use the 350t or a 400t otherwise, i think the 700r4 is the way to go......i hope you guys could give us both opinions!! Thanks guys this forum is great!!
