Help on Drop Kit?

i am planning on ordering a 2/4 drop kit for my 68 but now this is my concern, as of now my 68 has a 454 big block in it, it will be replaced with a 5.3/6.0 in a year or maybe a little longer, but this is my question.... they sale 2" drop springs for big blocks and 2"drop spring for small blocks? what is really the difference.... if i buy the drop spring for the small blocks, im guessing witht he 454 in there its going to drop it more than 2"? if so, how much more? i just really hate to change out the springs again when i get the LS motor in there in the future...

any help is appreciated..

Re: Help on Drop Kit?

Usually it's the spring rate that is different.

As an example (these are not real values for the springs you might buy), if a spring rate is 500 lbs/inch then it takes 500 lbs of weight to compress 1". If they were 600 lbs/inch then 600 lbs to compress 1".

The differnce between small block and big block springs is the rate is higher on the big block ones to compensate for the heavier engine. Can you use small block ones for a big block? Yes but the drop will more, since you are using lighter spring rates so they will compress more with a heavier engine.

Make sense?

If you're looking for a great kit, be sure to check out ECE (Early Classic Enterprises). They have great prices and even better customer service. Check out their stance photos here...

By the way...
