What material is best for heat shields?

Im in the process of fire proofing my truck. ahah. I need to make some muffler heat shields and wanted to know, which stops heat better, aluminum or steel???

I no aluminum dissapates heat better. I want it to stop the heat, not to dissapate it into the floor..... Anyways... Whats your thoughts?

Re: What material is best for heat shields?

Both are going to absord heat, but as you said aluminum does it quicker it also cools or dissipates the heat off quicker. Both once heated up, are going to transfer heat towards the cab. I think you won't see much difference (time wise) in how fast the panel heats up, so in the siutuation you are working with you would be better (cheaper) off doing like the factory did and use steel.

ahha.
Im goign to just get some steel. PUt 1/4 inch spacers between the floor and the exhaust and that should do plenty.. if its still to warm, i found a place that sells adhesive patches that withstand 1200 degrees. that will keep everything super cool. haaa
