I'd help, but to be honest, I'm not exactly sure what you are asking?

can you maybe explain it a bit better.

Re: What would yall do????

2 part clear epoxy for wal-mart. It is in the auto section, put some rust converter, on there and let it dry before you do the epoxy.

Re: What would yall do????

rust converter, wal-mart sells it too. It stops rust in it's tracks. I personally use POR-15 but there are many others, even naval jelly may do the trick (in automotive dept)

Can it be fixed having the rust cut out and weld in new metal? I used the rust converter and took it back tonight the crap didnt work it was like a clear coat. Is there any better kind like maybe NAPA or Advance autoparts?

Re: What would yall do????

Cut it out, weld in new metal. There is no miracle product for this application, if it were in the bed of your truck then you could just slap some POR 15 on it and it would block the rust from air and eliminate it spreading but breing on your roof, I don't see you being able to sealing off the light and keeping water out of the cab.

Re: What would yall do????

For a cheap fix:

Use the rust treatment. This stuff isn`t paint,it`s a chemical rust neutralizer.Permatex sells it in spray and brush. It turns rust black and leaves a clear glaze.Try bonding (JB Weld, epoxy) a piece of metal behind the roof skin.Drill a hole and run a sheetmetal screw in first, before you cut it down to a small piece. That way, omce the bond is cured you can run the screws in without worrying about breaking your piece loose.
OR...use little stainless nuts & bolts & washers(flathead or ovalhead machine screw)and assemble the light off the truck. Then, use a real good caulk or glue that will seal it and bond it in place.I have an excellent caulk I use called Geocel. It`s a tri-polimer urethane caulk and it doesn`t let go once it`s cured.Seals and lasts better than any caulk.

Re: What would yall do????

Rust converter is just that "converter" Since your roof is white, I would cut the metal out that is rusted and weld in a patch panel. Prime and paint the roof. It could easily be done in a weekend if you have the ability.
