simple bag question..

what size bag would we use on teh front of a 68 c10 with a 73 up front crossmember

would 2500 lb bags be ok.. or should i go for the 2600 lb bags

Firestone 2,400 lb. - rear

the 2500 will be fine. i used them for almost a year of dd use on my 97 fullsize they do just fine.

im sure they will do fine.. ive had tehm on the front of my s10 for the last 4 years.. with 2600 in the back.

i was just wondering if a 2600 would do better up front.

The 2,600 lb. front and 2,400 lb. rear combination has historically been used due to it's ride qualities at ride-height pressures for 67-72 era trucks.

I can't speak of S-10's or later models as I have no experience with either.

The 2600 bag is the common name when referencing a Firestone 224 bag. The Slam Specialties RE7 is the direct replacement for the Firestone, and a much better bag. With the RE7 / 2600 bag up front you'll get a greater lifting capacity at lower pressure. If you wanted to run a Firestone (255) 2500 up front you could do so, however that bag has a lower lifting capacity, and also gets one inch less stroke than the larger bag. One is of stroke in the bag will equal appx 1.5 - 2.0 less lift as well. That bag is mainly use in smaller applications such as an S10, or something with a really narrow spring pocket where you can't fit a larger bag.

Depending on actual bag placement in the rear, either of the two bags would work our fine. If you're looking to place the bag onthe trailing arm in place of the spring, than I would suggest the larger bag for sure, mainly since the lifting area would be just about a 1:1 ratio.

I'm curious to see a part number or image for the 2400 bag Shane is refering too. I've been around for many years and this is the first I've heard of it. I know Firestone make a 255C1.5 bag which is the equivilant to the Slam RE5, but I'm not sure if that's what you're refering to a 2400 or not. If so that bag is really small and only has 5" of stoke and I wouldn't reccomend that bag for the back a C10

Totally my bad, it's a 2,500 lb bag for the rear and the Firestone part number is a 225c.

I driver tractor/trailer for a living and have been on the road without internet for too long now. I though the miles and NoDoze were getting to me when I read your 2400 bag.

I've used both and it just depends on weight, and ride quality desired. Our shop truck has 2600#s all 4 corners

I like 2600 Contitech's up front. I'm starting to lean away from Slams as I have done a few trucks with Contitechs and Bilsteins and I can't seem to beat the ride quality with anything else.

i do like the ride on conti's but they are big.
however, that it not an issue with these trucks. even 2800 contis fit in the front of these without much worry to rubbing.
