Quality of Aftermarket Window Regulators...

Eventually I will be replacing both window regulators in the project truck I am working on - PO replaced the window felts/etc. and both of the windows are difficult to roll up/down...

I tried all the tricks to try and get them to move easier - no dice - the final trick was to install new(er) regulators - just curious to know if I should look for good old stock or if the quality of the new aftermarket was good enough to use...

Looking for opinions and some insight if you have been down this road...

I have new regulators from the truck shop, made by counterparts. Not very good quality. They were OK the first year or so, but 2 years later and a lot of use they kind of bind a little bit and don't roll up/down smoothly.

I purchased a set on Ebay from Carpartswholesale for about $19 each and they work pretty well, of course I just put them on a few months ago so who knows how they will perform long term. They sell the same thing at their online store for almost twice the price. I greased the gears up good before installing them, they come with a small layer of grease on them, but more is always better, right? I also replaced the seals/felt at the bottom of the window at the same time since I already had the windows out.

I bought a pair from LMC truck a few yrs back. They didn't look all that great as far as quality, but they work a lot better than the 35 yr old rusty ones that were there

bought news ones from LMC and one is still working and one worked 3 times and locked up. unfortunatly I had them for over 2 years before installing them and couldn't get them made up.

I bought some new ones from Early Classic, wound up sending them back and rebuilding my old ones. Unless the gear is severely worn a thorough cleaning and lube and replacing the nylon rollers and you should have a set that will outlast and out perform any new replacements.

I have aftermarket ones about 5 years old.I have had binding problems a couple of times and found a simple solution.I just spray silicone lube on the felts and regrease the regs.They work fine after that.I think they may last a while because of the lube.These trucks were built when the average person would do basic maintainence like lubing doors and latches window regs and the like.

No experience with repops but trick I used when installing the NOS regs in the 71, use white lithium grease on the rollers and gears of the regulators (get the spray and hose them down) and then use vaseline in the roller tracks located in the door frames. My setup even with new rubbers etc. was as smooth as silk no binding or other associated problems.
