Tunnel Ram

Any one on here ever ran a tunnel ram small block in one of these trucks? If you can get it tuned right, does it work well with the weight and all?

And how about hood clearance- would one fit under a stock hood?

Re: Tunnel Ram

I've ran tunnelrams onthe street (in a light bucket) and on the track. Even did one with a pair of 3310's trying to get street manners, Do yourself a favor,, the 'right' single carb and you will be MUCH happier on the street.

You may think you want this

But trust me,, it really only belongs here

and even then,, I'm running 0.8 seconds quicker with the new combination and a single dominator

Re: Tunnel Ram

I know someone that ran dual Edelbrock 1406's with a tunnel ram on a 882 headed 350 with slightly higher compression and a large cam. Thats 1200 CFM worth of carb on a 350. It actually did alright. I have a feeling that with the weighted air valve secondary carbs, the secondaries NEVER opened which is why it wasn't so bad. There's no way a 350 of that caliber can pull enough air through those carbs to pull the secondaries open. Had he run true mechanical secondary carbs, it probably would have just bogged. Also, the 882 heads probably kept air velocity in check with the tiny runners and small valves.

Would this motor have made better power with a Performer RPM Air Gap dual plane and just a single 650 carb ? I'd be willing to be it would have.

Re: Tunnel Ram

This is what i had in highschool, yes the cops loved me.....
sorry kinda a bad pic though

Two 450 cfm machanical secondary carbs, Holley dominator intake (dont use this intake though rpm range was way high and intake never hit torque curve, i put a weiand on after and it helped) 305h comp cam, just 882 heads studed and guide plated and just mild pocket ported, block bored .030 over and it ran very good!

Re: Tunnel Ram

Im going tuned port on mine this go around, it ran really good but dont want to mess with the tunning all the time on a cruiser.
A friend of mine had that exact setup in the pic in a 68 elcamino, 0.30 over with a 292 comp cam i think its right at 500 lift and that thing ran excellent! i wished i had that intake on it back then beacuse the power band was right wherei needed it to be with my setup... but oh well i paid hardly anything for the intake i had

I think that setup is around $700 or so now..

Yep! That's about the cheapest kit I have seen. I wished I went ahead about that kit from Summit Racing 6 years ago for $500. My engine is built mild due to the first gas hike! She's pushin only 400 horses now, with a dual pattern cam and peanut heads. I need to put a Detroit locker in my rear and change gears to a 4.10 or 4.56 like my dad has in his rambler. Anyhoot, you got any pics of your truck?

Re: Tunnel Ram

Old mans big block car

On his 306 (327 bored 30 destroked with a 283 crank)

Sits in his 57. Take in mind all these pictures are circa 1975ish, heres a pic of where they lay now

still as they ran, excluding the 57 threw a rod around 1977, but everything's still there he just never got around to rebuilding it.

Re: Tunnel Ram

Wow that is a treasure trove! What are the plans? Just enjoy all the history? Or rebuild some of the cars and race them again?

Hes still around, sitting at the young age of 62, and doesn't wanna do anything with them. Right now we have 150+ cars, and he mainly toys on original unmolested cars, usually meaning old farm trucks and field finds.

I hope one day to get his cars back out, at least his 57, because it was a world record holder, or his blue 68, record holder too, in total he held 3 during his career.

Right now im just focusing on getting my projects done, and enjoying being an 18 year old male, even though old man wont help me finish any of my toys.

Re: Tunnel Ram

Thats awesome. I would love to just open up the barn door and see the stash. Cool cars, and even cooler that they are part of your families history.
