Fab pros, What's your take on this?
I have always wanted a truck like Ak's-r-us was building. I am no where near the metal fabricator he is. So my thoughts are this. Find a 70ish suburban, cut the back off and install a pick up cab back. Leave it a 3 door until I can develop the skill and room to do the build right. What are your thoughts on this? I saw how much work it took to build the crew cab from 2 standard cabs and make the doors open the same way. That is the way I want it but am poor and willing to cut and weld, grind, repeat! Any info/suggestions are appreciated! Thanks Ryan.

I don't know about the extended cab 3 door thing. I think most first ex cabs just had 2 doors. But who knows, . Does anyone know where I can find some pictures of the roof line on one of these burban to pick up cab chops?

Re: Fab pros, What's your take on this?
by all means it is "possible" i could only imagine you are going to use a short bed.
the bid thing her is tho is its going to be large pieces in the fabrication wich could lead to some hard match ups without a hoist and 200 clamps with bracing all over. and Time might think about going with a 73+ so you could have a 4 door? but it looks like in your picture you got that already. Best of luck!

Instead I would talk to Kevin with LFD I belive he is RokCRLN on here, he knows what he was doing, and if you want a crew cab that bad, he would be the guy to do it for you. He will make it look right, and IMO his workmanship and attention to detail is far superior to anyone else I have seen do it.

Re: Fab pros, What's your take on this?
Yes, he does amazing work! I am pretty sure I can't afford him. :hehe: And this thing will be either a long bed or longhorn. It just depends how soon I can find a donor suburban.

Don't know if this one started-life as a 'burb, but this is one of my all-time favorite pictures.
I know there's guys on here who can tell you way more about this ride than I can. |

Re: Fab pros, What's your take on this?
well if I was you I would just call him and ask, I know he said it took him like 80 hours to do the 4 door burb, and he sold it for like 5 grand, so I would think you could get him to do it for a reasonable amount, if you dont ask you might wind up regretting it..

Good point. I might get the courage to PM him and ask him about it.

Re: Fab pros, What's your take on this?
Someone listed a burb converted to a 4 door crewcab on here the other day. I think it was on Nevada's craiglist, but I can't find it.

You'd probably be money ahead to buy this, and have it transported back.

Re: Fab pros, What's your take on this?
hey ryan, where do you plan to do this? out at your place or in the building down street from my work?
If you do it down here, I'd love to lend a hand. It'll give me something non computer related to do this winter |

I didn't know you worked that close. Probabally in Mitchellville if our building ever shows up. It's not looking too good right now though.
