Question headlight ?'s

Just saw a post about headlights and started poking around and came up with this. Has anyone converted to the non sealed bulbs with the replaceable h4 bulb or to HID lighting system ? Hope these links work if not I found the non sealed beams @ RB'S auto and the HID conversion @ kragen. thanks Dan

Cool LIGHTS ON

Are these what you are talking about? I bought mine last year at the Myrtle Beach car show for $80.00 for both and 2 sets of bulbs. I still have the 1st set in and it's my everyday driver. I think they are 65-55 watts. They have the tri-bar in them also. They really lite up the road good. I couldn't ask for anything better.
They didn't require no mods, just unplug the old, and plug in the new. Thats what I call simple, and true bolt in.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

are you talking about the GMC 4 headlite system ??? If so, have a neat inexpensive mod that uses all 4 headlites and with more output... and legal too !! Let me know.......... Jim

Here's a link to the pair I carry. They are a true bolt app as well.
They come with your choice of H-4 bulbs.

GMC 4 headlite system uses PAR-46 bulbs. Original configuration was #4000 - 37.5/60.0 watts for outside (lo-beam) and 4001 - 37.5 watts for inside (hi beam). This gives a total wattage of 150 watts on hi-beam and 120 watts on lo-beam. The #4001 is no longer available.
The lamp interchange charts show H5006 - 35.0/35.0 watts as the halogen replacement for the #4000 and H5001 - 50.0 watts as the halogen replacement for the #4001.
However, using the halogen replacements will give a total wattage of 170 on hi-beam and only 70 watts on lo-beam.
The extra wattage for hi-beams is fine... but when using the halogen replacements; the lo-beam wattage drops from 120 to 70. a considerable and noticeable difference.
So, I am using #4000 outer and #H5001 inner lamps... This gives a total wattage of 170 on hi-beams and 120 on lo-beams.

sorry.... a small math error... the #4000/H5001 will give 175 watts on hi-beams.... ..

I don't really look at wattage specs when comparing different types of headlights. Wattage is just a measure of the power consumption (current squared multiplied by resistance) by the light and is not necessarily proportional to the light output.

HID type lights are more efficient electrically (lower wattage) but produce more light (higher candlepower or more "candelas" (Cd's)")

GMCJim
What is the light output of your new setup in Cd's?

Volts X Amps = Watts........ within the same type of lamp... there is a direct relationship between watts and light output ( Candle Power).... True, wattage comparison between halogen lamps of the same wattage will be more efficient and brighter than standard lamps.
The point I was making is that the halogen H5006 (35.0/35.0) has far less light output than the standard 4000 or 4040 (37.5/60.0). Wattage is a standard spec for incandescent lamps .
The information on the lamp specs mentioned comes from a Phillips Lighting Catalog.

72 Custom Camper....the Sylvania or Phillips lighting specs do not list Candle Power ( Candela ? ) of their headlamp applications. Also the common #9005 and # #9006 is listed as 65 and 55 watts. The H4 lamps are listed 60/55 watts; 1650/1000 lumens

Lumens are linearly equivalent to Candelas.

V=IR, P=I^2R, P=VI...all the same.

Bottom line, I have T-3's all around and they are horrible. I could go with standard sealed beam halogen but I want that European glowing effect that you see on the new BMW's. Not because it is cool but because it is so much easier to see!

Anybody have lights like these that look somewhat original?

I won a set of the h4 conversion lights on ebay. They were $27 + shipping. They are alot brighter than the halogens I had on my truck. The guy that listed them on ebay had about 15 sets, but listed them to specific applications. They were all the same h6024 sealed beam replacement. Mine was for a old Porsche 924. The same set for Broncos and other common vehicles went for as much as $60. So if you get these shop it out first and score a deal. BTW the brand of lights I got was Otto and Procarparts was the seller. I've also seen their ads in street trucks.
