I`m a young man with a bad back. I was in a motorcycle accident 6 years ago and my lower back is messed up. Not to mention I`m 6', 270. Being hunched over is bad on my back and my gut cuts off my ability to breath bent over like that. It`s pathetic how out of shape I am for being 33.

yeah, i think the 390's had front distributor's.iv'e had a couple of them that were in the front.it probably was an old y-block.they had a 292,and 312 and one or two other y's that had rear distributor's.i don't know about the newer ford stuff.i can't identify half the crap on new engine's.

Re: what do you guys do?

No,it was a 390,my memory just sucks!! It'll be bad when I get old!! Ha!!!

I can tell you that it is a little bit of a pain in my roadrunner, cause of the long hoods like they used to have. Any chevelle owner can back me up on this!!!Today, there is no hood, but you still can't get to it,cause there is 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag!!!

I used to climb into the engine bay, or let the air out of the tires. I am only 5'8" and by the time I go to bed I am 5'7" so its tough to reach spark plugs and whatnot from the ground. Its also why most of my vehicles are lowered.

Since we are giving weights and measures I am around 260 but with a 38" waist. Yeah I am top heavy and I cant reach most of my back. I dont fit in tight places.
i know the feeling, At 5'6" and 220 with a 36" waist. and at my age i don't flex as easy as 20 years ago. i climb up in the engine bay & go at it, as long as i can stand it.

Re: what do you guys do?

With an L6 you just get in, sit on the inner fender, and put your feet on the ground!
at 6'1 and 250 I have to watch my head on the hood. At 48 it hurts to get back out....

Re: what do you guys do?

Stock height 2wd means I can reach almost everything at 6'5" and 240. If I do a whole cap/rotor/plugs/wires change, I'm usually a little sore the next day though. It's murder doing it on my Chevelle since that's basically at knee height. On short cars like that I usually try to lay down on the fender/core support and superman it.

Re: what do you guys do?

I am right around 6' and 225lbs. I usually stand on something or the bumper and get the stuff in front. For the back I usually get into the engine compartment drivers side and bang my melon a couple times and get the work done. So easy on my Firebird and Trans Am just reach around and get everything done quickly.

Re: what do you guys do?

For my '85 K20, I use a ladder to reach the front stuff, and lay on a moving pad with thick cardboard under it for getting in deep. I used this setup when swapping my intake and distributor a month ago. It really helped out.I still needed to sit in the hot tub later to ease out the kinks, but mainly to celebrate getting the job done. 43yrs old and 255lbs.

Re: what do you guys do?

I had my brother in law weld me one of these up out of angle iron. It slips right over the top of the tire. Now I don't have to worry about my little ladder
kicking out from underneath me. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0019961521303a.shtml
