gas tanks removal
how hard is it to remove the gas tank.i'm wanting to remove my tank an clean all the old gas out of it.

It is not too bad of a job if the lower mounting bolts come out without issues. The seat has to come out, the gasline disconnected and moved out of the way. If there is an extra line then it will need to be disconnected also.
Depending on the year of the truck there are (7) mounting bolts to be removed. The lower row screws into the floor pan and it helps if a good penetrating fluid is applied from below on the screws that stick out. If the fill pipe seal is good then it can be left in place. Just soap it up good around the filler neck and the filler neck can be pulled through the seal. Jim

 but...if you have rust on the floor of your truck the difficulty of the job just doubled. Getting the bolts that hold the seatbelt out can be tricky if they are rusted - since there is little room to work with that bolt... drain the gas out before you start using a siphon system... |

If you don't have rust issues....it should be no problem. All of the bolts are on the inside of the cab. The fuel line will be disconnected (use flare nut wrenches). Disconnect the sending unit wire (brown). If your grommet was as sun-baked as mine was, you'll be better off using a razor knife and cutting it, as I did. I suppose it's possible to lube it up with some kind of lubricant. WD-40 will attack the rubber and may make it swell up, so I'd use another type.
I have gutted my cab, and the seatbelts are still in place....

it took me about fifteen minutes to get my tank out... there are i think 3 or four bolt up top and on the same on the bottom...then two lines in the middle you need a screw driver for...then you might need pliers on the passenger side to take two lines off since its a pinch clamp... make sure nobody gets in an fires up the truck with the tank out... i took my tank out to work on my frame under my bed while my friend works on cab corners... i then wanted to wash all the dust off frame so i put tank back in got a mile down the road and it took for ever while i crank the engine and pumping the gas....
