Best place to get disc conversion kit/front end parts??
My '69 pasture king just got back from having the transmission re-built. I asked the gentleman to have a peek at the front brakes and throw on a new set of shoes, as it was starting to get a little Flintstone like.
The prognosis was bad and i was told i would need a complete rebuild (wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, etc.) which was 7 to 800 bucks on his dime He recommended and i agreed, that an upgrade to front discs would be a better deal, then i would just have to contend with the back drums, -- Anyway - i have a CPP catalog, and their "grand slam" kit is 1300 bucks --- but i wanted some insight on where the rest of you buy your stuff? Classic Trucks magazine seem to rely on McGaughy's and i am sure there are more, maybe even a board member. I know its not a cheap list of parts, but if i could either save a few dollars or get a recommend on someone who has quicker shipping or whatever, that would be awesome

73-88 parts truck, cheaper than most kits if you dont mind doing some cleaning. good for 5 lug conversion, sway bars, wheels, extra engine and trans.
its hard to beat new parts, all clean and shiney.

Quote:
Believe me, i've thought about that, but after you re-do the ball joints, tie rods, A arm bushings, re-build the calipers and get drop spindles, plus 5 lug axles and drums for the back, the gap gets closer and closer, unless you are using Auto Zone level repair parts. Its a rare 20-30 year truck that doesn't need that kind of attention

Re: Best place to get disc conversion kit/front end parts??
I've always bought a donor of some kind, rebuilt it locally using good Moog stuff, then but the drop spindles from Early Classic. It has always been the cheapest way to go for me.
