Rear axle question...

From everything I've read, my 79 2wd Blazer should have a 10-bolt rear but it has a 12-bolt.

Could this be factory? Not that it matters, I'm just happy to have a 12-bolt. But I was plenty surprised. Any chance this axle came stock on the truck?

Thanks.

Re: Rear axle question...

I thought the 10 bolts started showing up in these trucks around 1981-82.

Re: Rear axle question...

me thinks it was about 84 that they started putting the bigger 10" in the trucks blazers, suburbans, etc. A 79 will definitely be a 12-bolt

Re: Rear axle question...

The 12 bolt ran from 73-81. The 10 bolt ran from 78-91 So 79 could of gone either way...

It's a pleasant surprise. 4.10's and an Eaton Posi will go well there and stand up to what I'm putting in front of it.

This will be a cruise-in special, but I'd still like to get a 700R4 put in before the gears. I'll find out this weekend...
