buying a new edelbrock carburetor ?
I have a bone stock 72 K10 (350) I'd like to go with a new carburetor instead of rebuilding the 31 year old one I have now. I'd also like to keep the stock intake manifold.
So what I think I need is Edelbrock 1901. My question is Who has the best price and what is that price.... EDIT: Well I've been checking, if I keep my intake and get the edlebrock 1901 spread bore carb ($435.00) I'll be set. Or I could get the Edlebrock intake 2101 ($115.00) and the square bore carb 1406 $(260.00) Total = $375.00 I would still like to know who has the best prices?????????

I'd got with the intake and carb. I'm pretty sure the new intake will really wake up that truck.
I've found that summit usually has about the best prices, usually just a few dollars cheaper than jegs. |

i wouldn't go with the edelbrock i hear that its real hard to pass emissions with them. I put a carter 600 cfm on my stock 350 and it seems to do a lot beeter

I had an Edelbrock 1406 on a Performer manifold attached to a HO 360 on my old Matador Police Cruiser.
WOW, what a difference! Don't know much about the 1901 but the 1406 is probably the easiest-to-tune performance carb for a SB. I'd get the package deal...

Does Florida have sniffer tests for something that old?
Also, the Carter and the Eldebrck are about as close to being the same as you can get. Either one tuned properly will run just as strong and just as clean as the other. |

Unsolicited advice here but I think you'll find you'll get better performance and mileage out of a holley 4175 vacuum secondary 650cfm carburetor. They are a spread bore design that will not require a spacer/adaptor ad will bolt up to the quadrajet fuel line in many cases and they run great straight out of the box . Summit sells them for $309

BTW, I got my Edelbrock stuff from Summit.
Most local shops sell these same components and might beat Summit if you take the catalog into the store... Good luck! PS to all: Edelbrock bought the casting from Carter. The Edelbrock Performer Carbs are actually Carter AFB's.

True but theres so many variations in jetting and emmisions calibration that trying to compare them is like comparing apples and oranges. AFB's made in the late 70's tend to be jetted really lean while late model edelbrocks run on the rich side out of the box.

Now if you look on the side of the 1405 and 1406 yea it is an edelbrock but it planily says carter on the side so they are the same. I would go with the combo also just my .02

I'm going to replace my 327 2bbl intake and Rochester 2bbl on my fuel/air starved 350 with a 2101 performer intake I got used at a swap meet for $50 and Carter AFB 4bbl I got for free but I'm rebuilding for $100. The Carter AFB 4bbl is basically the exact same carb (minus some improvements and better components) as the performer Edelbrock series.
...so for $150 I'll have basically the same thing as you if you buy brand new Edelbrock combo for $375. ...therefore it depends on what you're after. I'm coming from a serious performance deficit, so all I need is a good solid upgrade. I don't need new stuff. If you already have a stock setup (cast iron 4bbl with Quadrajet that's tired) then you might want brand new. Another thing is whether or not your engine is up to the challenge. Since I'm not swapping out the cam and heads (it's an '80 350 that's VERY mild) I'm sticking to 600 cfms. If you have bigger valves and better compression then I do then you might want to bump up from that...

I went with the performer intake and the performer 750 cfm carb. sorry dont remember the numbers and theres way to much snow on the hood to go look right now it works great. the throttle response is way better then the 30 year old carb that was on it rebuilt and I lost some weight switching from that heavy intake to the aluminum one. not to mention they looks schweetttt. the only problem I ran into is the cam needs replaced after 30 years its lost its zing so the carb kinda floods the motor some at times. mainly after 90 but thats not really important it upped the power of the truck on take off's. made it pull easier when loaded. and i dont have to sit there and pump the gas until my leg goes numb on slightly cold days to get it to start. not only that but the carbs are tested and set at the edelbrock factory so you pretty much just bolt it on and fine tune it to suit what you want. works great right out of the box though. the price wasnt bad either. I think I paid 118 for the intake and 236 for the carb at autozone. it was somewhere in there between 325 and 350 for both. as well as the spacer and throttle mount. the cable on my 71 was set for the old 2 barrel and the edelbrock 4 barrel sat to far away from the mounting point for the throttle cable. so now its got a perty chrome one. so my idea would be swap it all. its better in the long run I think.

I got my Edelbrock 1901 for $289 at Advance Auto Parts. It may have been a fluke, but that is what I paid for mine. Oh, it was new, not a rebuild. Yeah, I know that's a lot cheaper than other vendors, but (like I said) it was a fluke. I had gotten a price from other places...for more money.....but, I didn't go there.

Meangreen....i had the same problem and i bought a new 1406 from jegs and a almost new edelbrock intake for it off of ebay for 75,stuck them on there and it runs great....it has been sitting for about 2 weeks and i went out there this morning after we have had an ice storm since mon night and pumped it once and it started perfectly....the only thing i have added was a fuel pressure regulator....i think my stock fuel pump was putting too much in it and it really helps....just my 2 cents worth

I am also running a #2101 manifold and #1406 Edelbrock carb on my 350. I didn't fill out the warranty on the manifold when i got it, but i wish i would have. It cracked a little bit around one of the bolt holes on the carb mounting pad. I threw away the warranty stuff when i got the intake thinking "what could possible go wrong with an intake". Lol...
I am pretty happy with the carb. It was a big improvement over my old Q-jet in cold weather starting, and the power was about the same after i jetted it a little richer. However, the Edelbrock has never came close to my old Q-jet in mileage. I had to jet the Edelbrock a little richer, and it gets about 11 mpg with 50/50 city/highway driving, while the Q-jet got 13 with 50/50 highway/city driving. I love the simplicity of the Edelbrock. Very easy carb to work on. If you do decide to get a new Q-jet carb, i would look into a JET Q-jet carb. They remanufacture them, and have a great application. They will even jet it to the specs of your motor if you buy it directly from them.
