Re: fog/smoke
Smoke or steam? Smell like electrical overheating or a sickening sweet smell?
Former would be heater blower motor and/or wiring. Latter would be leaking heater core

Re: fog/smoke
If the windows are fogging up that would be caused by steam from a leaking heater core.

Re: fog/smoke
You'll probably want to remove inner fender to do it. My bolts and backing nuts were rusted to hell and some broke. Otherwise everything else is easy.

Re: fog/smoke
If you have ac, you'll end up leaving the big box in the engine compartment alone and pulling the inside heater box. That's not so hard but there are three studs on the heater box that go through the firewall with nuts on them in the engine bay. I'll add a picture of the back side of the heater box later today.

Re: fog/smoke
Here is that photo of heater box back. Core goes in behind this panel circled in red. Easy to do really. Took me 6 hours on a sunday to take it out and put it back in.

Re: fog/smoke
you sure it isnt the rare "smoke screen getaway" option they had in 84?
replacing the heater core isn't that bad, although I did it on a tilt hood C-60....
