Automatic choke?

Does my 72 have one? Its a 72 C10 350ci original engine/carb/intake. My dad says it has one, but I haven't heard of one these trucks. All help appreciated.

is there a knob on the inst panel that says choke.... like in the 67/68? if not, then it came with an automatic choke.
They became standard in 69 on the 10 - 30 series trucks.

Oh, thanks. Nah, no knob. My dad said it has a choke, I said no dad there is no knob on the instrument panel, then he mentioned the automatic choke, so then I asked on here. I thought that all 67-72's had either no choke or manual choke, but thank God for that guy with a black Longhorn, what was his name? ANDY! If I want a new carb does it have to have a choke? I was thinking of get a trio, triple weber 1b. But its a lot of money, so most likely a Q-Series 650 CFM.

Yeah I think so, the truck will be painted Cummins Apex Red eventually with black details(wheels/engine/etc).

All carbs. have chokes unless they are strictly for raceing or are in a multiple carb settup with progressive linkage. The automatic chokes are heated to release the choke as the engine warms up. Some draw heat from the manifold useing vacuum. Some have the bimetal sping in the manifold with a link to the carb. Most anymore use an electrical heated choke. This is the simpliest way to go when changing things around & works the best.

I got a new engine wiring harness from M&H Electrical Fabricators and it has the wire for the choke, although my Edelbrock 750 Q-Jet has a divorced choke. It's mechanical and works great.

You first need a carb with an electric choke. Then, you supply 12V (key on) power to the terminal on the choke housing. After that, it's all automatic. Well, you have to "set" the choke by pressing your foot to the floor before you crank the cold engine. If everything is set up properly, the choke will flop into position and you will crank the engine. There should be a choke pull-off that will pull the choke back to the open position as the engine reaches operating temperature.

do you really need a "kit" to run a wire from the fuse box to the carb with 2 crimp on connectors?

Well I dont know what kind of connector I need. I do crimp/strip/splice wire, but I dont know much about car wires and such.
