Intake

Hi i got an eddlebrok aluminum intake how hard would it be to polish up how about keeping it up. Is there anyone here in az who does it. Or would it be a better idea to just buy a new polished or even a chrome intake. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my questions.

I seem to remember a place in AZ that did electropolish. You probably can find them in your phone book. If not, call some of your machine shops and ask them about it.

I'm thinking the porous nature of the intake will make conventional polish difficult, so buying a new one might me best.
FWIW I got one of those dura shine units from Edlbrock and was unhappy with it. It had chips around the threaded holes that didn't give me a good feeling. (flacking off more once fuel/ oil gets under it).

Re: Intake

The same polishing kit that Eastwood sells can be bought at a Sherwin-Williams automotive paint store for $20 less money.

Start with some Tripoli polish, when you are doing aluminum. The kit has the conical shapes that you will need to get into the nooks and crannies. It is actually marketed as a wheel polishing kit, so you can guess what the shapes are in the kit. You'll need an air compressor, though.

After the Tripoli, you can progress to a finer cutting compound. Seems like Zoops has what we are supposed to use to seal the polished surfaces, and they say their finish is good for at least 2 years. On an intake, I'd be surprised.

Powder Coating is a good alternative, as long as your intake stays below 400-degrees.

Re: Intake

There are other coatings that you would gain more than just shiny manifold. Take a look at poly dyne and what they have to offer

Re: Intake

peronally i do not think it would be worth spending the time to polish a cast aluminum intake.

if i had to guess how long that may take well if its a performer it would take forever. and a hi rise maybe alot less with all the flat sides.

144 for basic
http://store.summitracing.com/largei...g=edl-2701.jpg

$224 for endurashine
http://store.summitracing.com/largei...dl-27034_w.jpg

i guess maybe $10 an hour at 8 hours would make it worth it.

Re: Intake

Im just sayin for the cost/time a coating would me ezier to maintain and would work to shed of heat. And a shed caoting on the insde would build up volocity.if you have any polished parts on your truck then you know its a paint to maintain. And not to mention you have instant corosion. On untreated bare al.

Re: Intake

I don't think your going to like the powder coat.
If you want that look I'd order it from Edelbrock, that way if you don’t like it you can return it.
Hopefully the PC company will pre-heat it before they coat it. But if the guy behind the gun knows what he’s doing no problem.

Re: Intake

Less shine, but a "classier" look. It'll keep it's color for a long time, unlike the 'polished' stuff you buy new.

Re: Intake

If you want a really bright shine with basically no maintenance then get a new one from Edelbrock with the Perma-star finish

The thing about near chrome powder-coat is, that you have to polish the meta under it for it to be very bright / good looking

Re: Intake

Ceramic coatings can be polished in a bead tub. And its a lasting shine and can clean with a water hose
