Re: Rumors about rare trucks
Not really rare but an optional engine. They are out there but were probably only about 10-15% of the production run.I would guess LHM knows those figures exactly.

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
there is no documentation of what moels came with what options.
As in; you can find out how many got the big block, but that covers all models on the truck line that could get big blocks... 1/2 ton LWB, 1/2 ton SWB, 3/4 ton LWB, 3/4 ton longhorn, one ton longhorn, one ton stepside, one ton cab/chassis, one ton cowl/chassis, p/10 p/20, p/30 (if it was actually avalible in the P series... not sure) and then in each wheel base of each model of P chassis... Same thing with a wooden bed floor.... it was avalible as an option in all fleet side C/10, K/10, C/20, K/20... so the figure of X% would be X% of all 4 models. As for what engine would be in the other 16%... that's not an acurate question with the info at hand. The big block was not offered in 4X4 trucks, so the 8% figure is ONLY for the C series trucks. The 76% figure, was for ALL 72 trucks. However, there were 3 other engines offered... 250, 292, and 307. |

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
more important than rare.... it is highly desirable.
SWB with big block and A/C is the most desired truck by a majority of the people. Cream of the crop if you will. |

yep -- your truck is likely worth more than the '51 if its a big block truck. Thats hard for old timers to wrap their minds around sometimes. My dad always wondered why i messed around with trucks -- he thought i should spend my time and resources on a real "classic" (street rod or a tri-five Chevy to him)

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
Finding an intact big block truck is pretty hard to find. Some areas has more ordered and is where bodies hold up longer. But,like back east,a big block is rare.Finding an intact big block shortbed is rare these days.Le Creme de le creme.
Hey Phipp,I`ll send you a pm and have you cutin`n`pastin` in no time.Don`t ask much else about coputers, though.I don`t know the difference between URL,IMG...or most of the terms used.

i doubt they had special assembly line just for gov trucks. We can prove it with your VIN. It's just a special optioned truck.

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
There's a book (soft cover) called "Standard Catalog of Chevrolet Trucks and Other Light Duty Vehicles". It has data from 1918 to 1995, listing production figures, percentages for options, etc.
As for posting photos to the site, there's a tab under "Additional Options" that is labeled "Attach Files". Within that block, there's a button that is labeled "Manage Attachments". Click on that button. You will then have options enabling you to browse your computer and locate the picture you want to add. According to the website, it has to be 100KB or less. I have to go to my picture software and re-size the pix I want to post in order to get them small enough to post. If it is too large, you'll get a message that says so. If it is okay, you'll see the message that shows the name of the picture with a .jpg (or whatever) within the box. Once you hit "Submit Reply", it will be added to your post. You can also go to the Edit button and add pix under the same set of instructions. Oh, this is from another "old vet".

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
Wow, so my 250 straight 6 with a three on the tree must be "rare" as well (not to mention the extremely rare 4" stamped bumper). Sweet

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
I have not seen an original big block short wheel base in this neck of the woods, so if I did I would consider it rare indeed.
Between my son and I we have last count 9 and all of them have been basic models. It took me a while to learn to post pictures, but once I was told how to it was a piece of cake. I also use an old picture soft-ware to resize, Photo Impression. I too am an "Old Vietnam Vet", if 62 is old. My grandsons think I am. Danny

Re: Rumors about rare trucks
I just stopped at a used car lot in NM and was told the old mustard yellow and white 72 out back was not for sale as it was a "super rare Super Sport model!" I asked if he had a second to show me the truck. Long bed Cheyenne Super, but the SPID has the Cheyenne Super Spor on it, I tried to explain it was a cross between the Cheyenne and the CST (custom sport truck) and that there was a few of them made, but he was having none of it! He even went on to tell me there was an "expert" there in town that looked at it and immediately offered him a "large sum of money" for it, so he figured it must be "RARE" so he would not sell it, he was going to fix it up. I left, it was a longbed, 400 (402 BBC), AC, tool box, so it was cool, but I'da liked to have had it, but the cab/clip/drivetrain would've ended up on a shortbed frame!
Oh that reminds me, i told him a shortbed Cheyenne Super w/BBC was the rarest of all and he said, shortbeds are everywhere, you don't see the longbeds!? |
