Post v-8 s-10

I'm building an 86' s-10 w/a 350 v-8 and I would like to keep the 4-speed stick thats in it.Would it hold up to a 350?The truck came from the factory w/a 2.8 v-6 and 4-speed w/a posi rearend.I have a narrowed 12-bolt posi rear i'm putting under it.I have a v-8 bell housing from a 1969 GMC truck would this work w/the 4-speed?The motor and bell housing came out of the same truck.Any help would be appriciated

The tranny won't be near strong enough. I'm not sure if the bell housing would fit or not. Best bet would be automatic or finding a 5 speed out of a newer truck.

if you located a t-5 manual out of a 2wd s-10 you could buy a clutch and bellhousing kit from summit or jegs , kinda expensive though , but definetly better than the old 4 speed. or you could swap in a getrag 5 speed out of a newer body style s-10 (94-02) as long as it is out of a 4.3 powered truck

A v6 transmission definately won't hold up to a V8 for any lenght of time. The 2.8 tranny won't work, and while the 4.3 one will, it will break if you run it hard. If you want a cheaper four speed, look for a super T-10 or Muncie M-21 out of a late 70s early 80s Camaro. There are still quite a few around, they are reasonable to rebuild, and are plenty strong for a mild V8 S-10. A better choice if you wanted overdrive is the T-5 from a mid 80s-early 90s Camaro/Firebird, but they aren't quite as strong and probably more money. A good clutch setup is the hydraulic setup from a 4.3 S10. It's all bolt in.

The T-5 is a POS and will not last behind a 350...there's a reason it was never offered behind one.

your best bet is to go with a TH700-R4 automatic trans. It will make life a lot easier and finding one is no problem.
