Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

Since this summer i have wanted to convert my 71 shortbox to include factory air. I realize i will be much further ahead if i just buy a complete A/C parts truck instead of trying to piece everything together. I found this 72 GMC 2WD longbox with factory air. Its a 350 auto that runs but the tranny slips he says. It has ps and pb and comes with a set of rallys. He says its complete but needs some body and mechanical work. It will limp onto a trailer but needs attention. It needs cab corners and rockers for sure and he was going to check out the floors and supports for me. Whats a truck like this worth? Like i said i mainly want to use it for the A/C swap and either part or sell the rest. Thanks.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

A/C? Are you crazy???? Roll down your window for a great blast of that 0 degree air

On values it's always tough to say without pictures. From your description I would say $500 tops.

Does the AC currently work in that truck? If not, it really doesn't take long for these old AC systems to nickle and dime you to death when you try to get them going again. The aftermarket units are around $1,000, and you know exactly what you are getting there.

Do you plan to swap the cab over, or cut the dash vents in your existing dash and then modify the firewall to accept the AC unit?

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

It isn't really necessary 10 months out of the year here but i think it would add to the value of the truck and be nice for those two months. I was planning on using the GMC cab because my cab has had rockers, corners, floors, and supports cobbled onto it already and starting fresh would help me rest a little easier. I will get some pictures when i get a chance to look at it.

I was just giving you crap about the AC. It sure has been cold lately, and it sounds like next week will be worse.

If you ever find a truck my direction let me know and I can look at it for you if needed.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

I don't think $500 would be out of line. The major deductions for me are:
1) The front has damage. For sure the hood is scrap, maybe the grille too?
2) The cab is fairly rusty, from what I can tell anyway. I see a hole in the floor pan and the rocker lip is gone, which usually mean there is a lot more rust under there.
3) The AC compressor is gone, and so are the brackets. This will cost you some $$.

The major good thing is that the truck looks very original. It doesn't look like much has been messed with at all.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

I am only interested in the A/C stuff and possibly the cab. The compressor and brackets are missing and some hoses but the pulleys are correct and everything else is there. The cab is tough but it is a 72 like i want and fairly original and complete. I think i can part out the rest and do alright if the price isnt out of line.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

Are you sure it's a 72? The picture of the grille isn't that great, but I think it's a 69 or 70 grille. I am having a hard time deciphering that model number to find the year, GMC's seemed to do their own thing. I can't read the VIN so I can't pull a year off that.

It would be great if you could get it for a price fair enough where you can part it and get your money back out of it.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

Now that I look at the pictures again I see that the door panels are 72's. Either the grille has been switched (which you don't care about anyway), or I just can't see the black stripe in the shadow.

Re: Wiw: 72 gmc lwb 2wd

It has a 72 cab and doors. Im not up on my gmc grilles i guess. It has had rockers in at one time and some bondo work on the bed. The tailgate is rough but usable and it has a wood floor too.
