Clutch Confusion

At the risk of opening up a controversial subject. I need to replace the clutch on my 71 3/4T. It has a 402 that is mostly but not entirely stock. Rear is a 3.55 posi. I wouldn’t mind a lighter pedal pressure but don’t want to sacrifice durability. The current clutch is a Borg and Beck style and lasted about 80k miles.

I’m debating on switching to a diaphragm type of clutch due to the lighter pedal pressure. Basically I’m looking for input that would talk me out of it or confirm that this really is the best way to go.

Definetly go for the diaphram type. Much better all around. Make sure the TO brg matches the pressure plate. There are 2 different lengths. Its best to buy the whole kit new. With reman clutches you never know what you are getting.

i have a centerforce dual friction in my '72 half ton short step ,behind a 1973 455 buick . i put it all together 3 years ago this month , and i drive it just about everyday . i really like the pedal feel and grip . its more than a stock replacement but so much worth it

Thanks for the replies. I'll likely go for the diaphragm kit but did need confirmation. Centerforce would be great but I understand they are the type that increase clamping force as RPM increases. I need the best clamping at low RPM. When I screwed the motor together a few years ago I was looking for a lot of low end torque. If this isn't the case please let me know.
