Re: how to put power stering on a 67 gmc
Howdy... I have a 68 and I just used some washers to make up for the lack of indent on the frame. However, if you do a search under this forum, you will find some good info.
I believe mine came out of a late 70's or early 80's truck. As for the indent, some guys have just banged the frame with a big hammer, others have cut, some use a torch to create the indent. I saw one that had an adapter for a 66 chevrolet. Not sure where he got that but it looks well made. Here's a bump for you in case someone has more ideas... |

Careful using washers to space it out. It actually throws off the steering column line and can cause gearbox bearing wear, etc. Just a little heads up. If it were me I would heat and hammer the indention in. That seems the best way in my opinion.

Re: how to put power stering on a 67 gmc
True, true... In my case, my 68 has somewhat of an indent, just not enough. So a couple of washers was all I needed.
The bracket that I saw someone use on a 66 will certainly bring it out more at an angle. I believe if it was extreme, I would use some sort of swivel connector on the steering shaft like the hotrodders do. Otherwise, I agree that creating your own indentation is the route to go. |
