Okay so like having a 6 banger is not all bad right?

Well might as well keep it since it doesn't smoke too bad or burn too much oil. So where do look for numbers on this sucker that could help me learn what motor I have under the hood of my '67 Chevy pick'em up truck?

Easiest way to tell is look at the engine mounts. If they are straight across from each other then its a 250. If the passenger side mount is more towards the radiator than the drivers side, then it's a 292. Also the 292 block is a little taller than the 250.

Unless someone has put an older 235 (I'm sure someone somewhere has done it before) in there.

The side covers for the lifters will be 6 in on the 292 but only 4 in on a 250.After a while it becomes second nature just like looking at BB and SB engines.

It's not a 235 Stovebolt series.

It's not a 292, lacking the large bypass hose off the waterpump and thermostat housing.

That means it's either a 230 or a 250.

You'll have to run the serial number to find out which one.

The number is on the passenger side near the oil pressure port.

To answer you first question, no, a six is not all bad at all. I actually really like mine and it sounds great when I cruise next to the median barrier on the highway (especially when it lugs down). They get good gas mileage, have lots of torque, and are very easy to work on. One downside is they are more expensive to modify then a 350, but I like mine the way it is so that is not an issue for me.

By the way, I think yours is a 250 ci (4.1 L).
