Re: pics of 73 front end parts
If it is for the 84, you'll need the core support too. More than likely, the hood and core support you buy (if used) will come with the hood spring and hood catch (dog pecker as I refer to it). You will need the outer grill nuts for the outer grill mounts, they are 73-74 specific. It looks like you have them on 1 of the 2 pieces, but are often broken. You can get the nuts from resto catalogs and such.

Re: pics of 73 front end parts
but all the supports are there? that's the big thing to me...I'm 90% sure that I'm getting that 79/80 in the other thread I posted...so that's where the sheetmetal is coming from...do I need a 73/74 core support or will the 79/80 core support work...thanks a ton Jeff...

Re: pics of 73 front end parts
a pre 1980 core support will work just fine. The only thing you need to know is that the mid-mounts for the grill will not be used. You will have to unbolt them from the 79/80 support and discard them. They are actually welded on the 73/74 core supports. I did the same swap on my 77...it is really a no-brainer.

Re: pics of 73 front end parts
You'll need to get 73-80 fenders, hood and hood hinges, core support, and lower valence. Plus, the 81-87 front group has a seperate cowl panel that needs to be removed, the wiper transmission needs to be swapped for the lower profile 73-80 style to clear the hood, and you'll need to fill the holes that the 81-87 hood hinges sat in to keep water from getting down in the lower cowl area and rusting it out.
You'd be better off buying a complete front clip from a 73-80 with all the clips, bolts, and brackets. If you can, go to a wrecking yard and find a 73-80 and a 81-87 and compare the two, especially in the cowl area and you'll see what I'm talking about. This swap has been done alot, and it's not hard to do. It's just taking the time and doing it right will make the final product look much nicer. |

Re: pics of 73 front end parts
Yeah, definitely check with a wrecking yard! Last week I saw the post about the guy selling all the brackets on e-bay for $79. I had asked if that was a fair price knowing that it seemed high to me. On Sunday I hit the local pull-a-part and they had a 73 and a 74 in the yard. Some one had already gotten to the 73, but I scored all the brackets off the 74 for $6.86!
