I Feel Horrible
So I was trying to squeeze my truck in next to my F450 and trailer, and didn't have anyone spotting me. I ended up scraping some paint right off the door. Fortunately it didn't tear any metal or even dent in, but I feel bad to have effed my decent paint. What do you suggest for fixing it? I have a buddy who owns an autobody shop, he might be able to mix me a little bottle of touch up paint. I feel bad.....

Re: I Feel Horrible
That is a bummer...at least you did not scrape your bedside against a pole, tearing up the paint and the metal. I have to get a new bedside to fix mine. Good luck with getting some touch-up paint.

Maybe a MUCH thicker pin stripe Sorry, I know it's not a joking matter. I doubt you will be able to make if look very good touching up that large of an area. Maybe you buddy can respray the door.

Re: I Feel Horrible
That sucks. As someone else already mentioned, at least you didn’t wrap it around a pole while you were out spinning doughnuts in the snow.
Looks like you are going to need more than touch up paint there. My guess is the scraped area will need to be feathered out with a DA sander then primed, painted and recleared followed up by wet sanding the area and buffing. That is assuming your paint is base coat/clear coat, which is easier to fix. Good time to lay some paint on the tail gate too.

Re: I Feel Horrible
OUCH! Gives you a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach don't it. I feel for you brother....
The very weekend I brought home my "Barn Fresh" '68 that had never had anything done to it, had no dents, no rot, I was turning around in a lower parking lot in my driveway. It was dark and I was carefully watching a car on the right side of my truck and I backed up cutting the wheel hard to the right. Just as I remembered that I had moved my dumpster the day before I spun my head back to the left and watched the fender slide under the leading edge of the dumpster as I hit the brakes. The result was a dent on the top of the fender right on the top of the curve. It looked like someone took a baseball bat and hit it as hard as they possibly could, the dent was 6 or 8 inches wide and 3 inches deep! I was so angry with myself I could spit. I did not take any pictures of the damage, but did shoot a couple of the repair. After a couple of hours with pull rods and my body dollies it is almost ready to fill the holes and do the final shaping. Then some paint. Will finish the repair this winter.

Re: I Feel Horrible
I just wish that the paint wad worse, or something else was wrong with it so I had a good excuse to repaint the whole thing...... i know i know more projects..... I think your right, touch up paint won't really work. I just feel bad, it would be easy to sand and repaint but I just striped it... Oh well something will work out. I just don't want it to rust. Yes I am lucky that it wasn't worse, and its all a learning process....

Re: I Feel Horrible
Well it just got he bottom of the door and lucky for you (see you are lucky) you did not get the bed. Since your paint is fresh it is not too bad of a job to tape off from the stripe down and re-paint the bottom of the door, you could use the excuse to have the tailgate done at the same time. It could have been a lot worse, you could have bent the cab corner.

Re: I Feel Horrible
Ya I am glad that I didn't do any more damage. Yes, maybe I can get the tailgate painted too.... but then it would show all the dents and I wouldn't have as much money to put toward the new motor...

Re: I Feel Horrible
Well it could use paint anyways. Earlier in the build, my new transmission was sitting on the ground next to it, and my grandma opened the door to look inside, an hit the transmission. Put two long scrapes in the paint. It's not like I could be angry at my grandmother for accidentally hitting it...

Re: I Feel Horrible
Well like many said before...a scrape is a lot easier to fix than a long crease or dent. Remember...the glass is half full not ...??
