a rich idle mixture will not cause dieseling, a lean mixture will.
Lean causes more heat, and heat causes hot spot, and that ignites the mixture without the spark plugs igniting. |

Odds are the dieseling effect is due to the timing and overfueling of the engine. I agree that lean will make it run hotter, but a new engine would not have carbon to get hot and cause the problem to much
