Rear axle Width (Inside fenders)

Hey everyone! Does anybody have a measurement of the inside rear fender width (inside lip of fender to inside lip of opposite fender)(maximum possible axle and wheel width) for a '55 second series step side. I need this measurement for a rear axle and wheels I have.

I dont have the means to get this measurement myself so If anyone has it I would appreciate it!. It will need to be precise because I know its going to be close to say the least. THANKS!!

ohhhhhh if correct this is good news!!! Using the '78 truck rear end with rims and tires on I measured it right at 72.5" so this pretty good news!!

Can anyone else chime in to verify?

Re: Rear axle Width (Inside fenders)

The distance sounds about right. I measured but can't remember the the number.

One weird thing that happened to me a few years back. Ex-wifes' 57 gets sideswiped by hit and run drunk along the left rear fender. I put the 56' fenders on and now the tires rub. Not hard but enough to polish the tire a little. Later buy some decent used fenders and redo them and install. No rubbing. I think that these rear fenders coming from different factories and being made for such a long time, 55-66, had something to do with the size difference.

Thank you guys so much for the info, I at least know there are no major mods to get this rear under there... If anything just some TLC, luck, and a little lip bending.
