Wiring Harnesses - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone with experience with wiring harnesses. Can you use a later model with the push in fuses, as a replacement for the early style with tube type fuses. The wiring color codes "appear" the same. Has anyone been there, done that yet. Thanks for any info.

I bought a brand new wiring harness last summer to install in my '67. I haven't done it yet, but it comes with a new fuse block that utilizes the blade fuses and is color coded to the truck. I got it from HotRod Wires. They don't sell over the web, only mail order or at swap meets. You can find their catalog in some of the mags or I can get you a phone # this evening. I spent $159 for the basic kit which would have been $259 if I bought it mail order. The kit appears to be of good quality.

Checkout www.painlesswiring.com They have a complete rewiring harness available for our trucks. If I remember correctly the new harness has the new push type fuses.

Yes and no. The new models have different plugs on then ends, and depending on what you got it from, it may have extra wires or different wires that you will need to trace down. It can be done, but if I were swapping, I would rather put something new in there instead.

Thanks guys, my buddy has a 78 but he got harnesses and fuse blocks from an 81 or newer. Things look the same but . . I'll advise him to watch out for extras, different plugs and the like as he goes forward. Thanks for the heads up.
