If there is nothing wrong with the 305 then keep it. It's not a bad motor just smaller. If you need to replace it and have a choice then the 350 would be the better way to go in most cases.

If you tow a lot then I would go with a TH400, one of the strongest tranny's built. But if you tow sometimes and want decent gas mileage, I would go with a 700R4.
My .02 cents.

Re: 305 or 350 ideas for the c10
Ok, I got ya now. Corts60 has the best answer in my opinion. The TH400 is hard to beat for strength, but a TH350 isn't a bad transmission if built properly and a remote cooler is used.
My personal preference would be a 700r4, but you will need to have one built to your specs, or remember to take it out of OD when towing.

My 305 was right peppy with an RV cam. If it's sound you want, change the exhaust. I couldn't add anything to the previous trans suggestions.

Put a 400 crank into the 350 and make yourself a 383 stroker!!!

Re: 305 or 350 ideas for the c10
The heads on the 305 are crap, junk, and otherwise worthless.
That being said, once the 305 decides it was all too much, swap in a 350. WAY better parts selection, more power, all that good stuff.

Re: 305 or 350 ideas for the c10
My 87 2wd has the 305. I really wish it had the 350. The engine has high miles on it, very reliable, decent fuel mileage, but it is wayyyy underpowered (mods include true dual exhaust and k&n drop in filter.
