Tranny-transfer !

Been a while since Iv'e been on here.I have a question about the tranny and transfercase,On the divorced case is there a seal to prevent the gear oil from the tranny to make it's way to t-case.Thanks Randy.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

Not sure how that could happen since the two aren't connected in a divorced scenario. There should be a seal on the transmission output yoke and one on the transfer case's input yoke.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

Ok,Thanks I'll have to look at another 3spd tranny to see if there should be a seal,The reason I ask is,I had to replace the adapter that the tranny bolts to and t-case,cause mine was cracked, anywho I pretty sure I had filled the tranny and t-case back up,when shifting the tranny the t-case shifter would make a noise,so I checked the tranny and it was low,so I checked the t-case ,took plug out and it poured like it was overfilled, front end of vehicle was down hill alittle so it lead me to believe that maybe it somehow traveled through that adapter to t-case.Is that possible. Thanks Randy

Re: Tranny-transfer !

Yes that is possible. You do not have a divorced transfercase so there is a sealing arrangement to keep the trans and transfer lube from mixing.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

Hmm now I'm confused,I thought it was D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D BECOMES FINAL TODAY,Sorry sounded like a song, but my 3spd trans bolts to an adapter, then the trans-case bolts to it doesen't that make it divorced. So it does sound possible,is that what I'm hearing.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

No yours is married. A divorced tcase is when you have a seperate drive shaft that runs the tcase and is totally seperate from the trans adapter all together.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

There is a seal at the tranny where the output comes out, and also where the output comes out of the transfer case. May even be a seal or two in the adapter, I can't remember at the moment. Someone will know for sure, but it is common for them to start letting tranny fluid into the transfer case when a seal starts to fail.

Re: Tranny-transfer !

I had tranny oil leaking out of speedo housing, good indication that tranny seal has gone bad. Drained trans case it was full of gear oil mixed with tranny oil. I have never removed a trans case. My ? is does the trans case mount unbolt by the 4 bolts that are bolted to tranny and the 2 on the cross member and come out as one piece after drive shaft is removed? And also does the front driveshaft need to unbolt or can it come apart and be removed with trans case?

Hey Randy, where ya been? It`s good to hear your trans and t-case aren`t getting divorced.I think a temporary seperation (to repace seals) will help make for a marriage that will last.
If I was you I`d be aweful embarrassed knowing I caught those two swappin`fluids.
