Temperature controls
Hello All,
What is the best way to lubricate, and what type of lube should I use to lube up my temperature control cables? I have a factory AC truck and I noticed they do not move as freely as they probably should. Also, what procedure would you recommend? Thanks all, Rick |

Hi Rick, I always remove mine to lube them. They are not hard to remove if you use a tool like in the first picture to remove the small clips. The second picture shows where to insert the tool to push the clips off. Just get it in close to the post and work it around them. I use PB Blaster on the cables first to loosen them up then a light oil such as 3-in-1 oil to lube them. It makes a lot of difference after you get it done. LockDoc

Do I need to remove the temp control unit? also, are those clips reuseable? I do have a spring tool, almost like yours, do you remove the cables from both ends? I also have both PB Blaster and 3 in 1 Thanks again for the help Rick |

I did it basically like LockDoc recently and they work soooo much better. I'd be prepared to ruin a couple of those clips, but they can be reused if you're careful. The other ends are just screwed to the air box.

The control unit is held in place by two screws under the edge of the dash and isn't hard to remove. Just be careful of the wire to the switch. It makes it a lot easier. If you take it slow on the clips you can usually save them and re-use them. I completely remove the cables, otherwise it is hard to get the oil to flow down into them. LockDoc

I removed the cables also, way better in the long run. It worked well to let the lube self-soak with the cables hung up in a u-shape so he lube could penetrate all the way. I used miro-mist and 2 years later they still work as smoothly as the day I put them back together.
If you're pulling out the controls, instal the upgraded top(?) lever while you have it out. I think ECE sells it.

lay the removed cables in your drain pain with the old oil in it for a couple days.

As I recall, the top lever controls the a/c flap and the vacuum switch. It's been a while...
