What year What color is this truck ?

I bought this truck for my oldest son back in the 80'ies and have forgotten what year it was exactly .. think it's a 72 ,but not sure.

Also ,this color Grey was a very tough hard paint and I believe it was thought to be a paint the State Vehicles were painted as a whole fleet for a city ..Not sure about this either and maybe some on here can add something to this that was told to us about the paint color back when my son owned the truck..

Sad to say ,,my son was t-boned by a drunking driver and the truck was totaled out .. He bought the truck from the Insurance company and took off what he wanted and the rest was taken to the junk yard for scrap..
Beings my son was not hurt in the crash except for a few bruises ,,,we have always felt more sorry for the great truck he lost.. papa Larry

Glad to hear he was not hurt!!
Not sure about the color.. but looking at the 6 lug wheels and grill, it is either a 69 or 70

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

From the looks of the grill it could be a ’69 or ’70. If you can remember which engine it had, you could narrow it down as well. If it had a 305 V6, then it was an earlier model '69 as they dropped those mid year. If it has a 402 V8 then it's a '70 as they replaced the 396. If it had a 350, then we won't be able to tell as it was offered in both years. Tilt steering was also offered as an option in '70.

Cool truck, glad to hear your son made it out of that one safe!

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

I like the old 6 spoke 6-lugs.I agree it`s a 69/70.The color looks dark for the factory color, but could be the photo. If it was real tough gray, maybe it`s battleship gray.
I`m glad about your son coming out alright, too. That`s what happened to me in my first truck.

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

4 on the floor was probably not factory...if it was a straight 6 then a late '69 or '70.
My roommate's got a ' 79 Mitsubishi J-54 that is painted gunmetal grey w/ the heavy duty military paint...it's pretty impossible to scratch it so durable. Maybe this was a COPO truck that the state ordered!!!

Definately 69-70 by the grill the 4 on the floor was a factory option as I know my GMC with a 292 came with a 4 on the floor. Looks like a pretty cool truck

Looks like a '69 to me. Here is a website that helps identify different years: http://www.pattson.com/maych/67_72_chevy.htm

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

that link says nothing about GMC trucks.
4 speeds were offered on all inlines and v 8 gas engines, and I've seen original V-6 trucks with 4 speeds too.
I agree with the rest, the grill says 69/70, and the 6lug wheels say the same.

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

Possibly a COPO color as stated above.IIRC that was right about the time Imron paint was popular. Some of it was tough as nails because it was an industrial paint that could be shot to a good finish.

Larry, I'm glad to hear that your son wasn't injured in the wreck. What a great looking GMC stepper!

I think you may be on to something with the gunmetal grey as it was tough paint we knew that ..from hunting and brush along the back roads..

Re: What year What color is this truck ?

Tons of these trucks had 4 speeds.

Had quite a few of them.

Still have 2 that were 6 cyl 4 speed trucks.
