Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Ran some casting numbers today due to the fact my dad found a 327 (Not a 350 as told) in his 40 chevy pickup, and I don't have a 350 in my truck I have a 95-00 Vortec 305

But in doing more casting numbers on my other block , I found out I have a ZZ4 Vortec 350 sitting there waiting to be my 383 stroker

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Well I told my dad and he sat there and pondered for a minute and said this. "Atleast i came out better in the deal, I have a 327" and he stuck his tongue out at me. I'm not hacked just kinda, bleh. I can't wait to get started on my ZZ4 though

Same here. Baught truck, told it was a 327, turned out to be 307. Not too bad though, I wasn't building a race truck, just a nice daily. Still runs strong.

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

I have a 396 sitting in a old flat bottom vdrive boat. The boat is pretty bad off and I was just getting rid of it a chunk at a time. Livrat (Mark) here on the board was looking at it and said he was sure that it wasnt a 396 but a 427.

I ran the numbers and sure enough its a 68 4bolt main 427. Sometimes it works out in a good way. Im keeping this one.

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

You got lucky CG! I ran the numbers on every truck I have ever bought. Once I called a buddy and he ran them....told me the damn thing was a 305. Later on I checked and it was in fact a 350....missed that one, it was a great running truck!

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Yesterday I tore down my Big Block 396 and ran the numbers. It is a 69 only 375 HP Block for Chevelles, Nova's and etc. The Big happy surprise was the heads. They are 1965 425HP Corvette only heads. They are on EBAY now and I have already been offered $2,000 for them...They are one of the very rarest heads to find.

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Thought I had a 454 in my 70 truck. Turned out to be a 396. Figured that that is still a respectable engine so I didn't get too upset.

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Me too, the PO said it was a 350, turned out to be a smogger 305 out of a late 70's 1/2 ton truck. No wonder it was so slow

No worries, a patriot vortec headed 350 is on the engine stand ready to go in very soon

I had a block like that one a few years back...the bare block alone is worth over $500. Cool about those heads!

the value on those blocks have gone way up! look on ebay for a 3955272 casting and you will see what I mean. $2500 average for a block and crank. $7500 for a complete engine. it's crazy.

Re: Kinda dissappointed, but kinda not.

Monte,
I cant wait to see the pics, Thanks. Hot Rod Magazine(Feb 09) has ZZ4 build that gains 117 HP over stock with heads, cam, intake, carb. Its rated at 430 hp I believe. I like the idea of the 383 myself. Good luck with it !!!

Well it's torn down now, no front clip or bed since we just took those off. I'll get some tomorrow when I get off and I'll show em off.
