so im stripping my old seam sealer out, i bought new 3m dripcheck sealer. my question is how do you guys get the old sealer out. im workin on a 70 gmc. thanks

Propane heat to get it warmed up (hand-held torch, cook it good, but make sure nothing is inside the cab that can catch on fire), screwdriver for the bigger chunks and a wire wheel for whats left.

Works great!

I used a wire wheel on an angle grinder to remove all of mine, no heat.

Just a wire wheel is all it took for me.

My advice has been trumped! Try the wire wheel first and if that doesn't work. Heat it up and use the screwdriver. Well at least that is what I had to do.

wher'd yall buy the new sealer stuff at..mines comming off without me pulling it off lol.....did ya paint over hte new sealer also? thanks!

I believe you do paint over it, I'd also like to know where to get it/how much to get.

I believe so. If it wasnt that way then you'd see a bunch of truck with gray gunk next to the beautiful paint.

well..here after it gets warm again i'll prolly start on paint..proly after school gets out...and i was wondering if i could leave the selaer primer for alil before i can get it painted..

thats the stuff i was talking about. i bought 2 tubes from my local napa autoparts store, they sell paint supplies also. i believe it was 10 to 15 bucks a tube. He said one should do it, but i bought to to be sure, and if one does the job ill take the other one back.

I could just shave the drip rail and not have to deal with it.

Not to discourage Brad's advice, but that would be the last thing I would do. I did it on mine only because my rails were completely rusted out and I couldn't save them.

It's alot of work and not something I would recommend to a novice bodyman. I am not second guessing your abilities, who knows, Chip Foose could be your dad!

It's not overly hard, but just takes a great amount of time and patience, not to mention a really good welder and above average welding skills.
