Cool vs. Warm air intake?

I am wondering if there are advantages/performance differences in cool air vs. warm air getting sucked into the air cleaner. If so, I am thinking about running a tube away from the engine heat. Anyone running an air filter system like they have on newer vehicles? Pics?

Cold air is better for the engine...hence the cowl induction, the old open shaker hood scoups, and the other factory deals...not to mention the newer style ones you mention.
The cooler the air, the more dence it is, so it is actually putting more oxygen into the cylinders.
Other than a wowl induction hood, or a big honkin hood scoop, there is no way (that I have seen) to run a good cold air intake and have it look nice, onless you want to cut holes in your core support.
It does help quite a bit with performance, Car Craft had documented it on the drag strip.

Well, I ran out of things to do on my truck and was just looking for something else to do...Yea Right! I think there's always someting to do them as long as you own one.

The guy I bought my Suburban from cut the radiator support to do a cool-air induction on it. He took the cool-air stuff out when he sold it, but now I don't have to feel guilty about cutting a hole in the support to do it.

It's a air-density thing like he said. The colder the air, the denser it is. That means more air/fuel gets sucked into the cylinders giving it more power.

Cool Cold Air

This is my set up and it works fine. I know I have a late model engine but the set up would be the same Idea. If you have gone to a later model alternator then cut the hole where the old regulater went.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

That Ram Air Box reminds me of a Rainbow Vacuum.

Well, I have the gears turning now to come up with a creative idea for an inlet for cold air.

Cool Vacuum

I got it out of a 90 caddy, it's there factory box. I did however change it to suck from the bottom of the box. I have a 4" opening for the intake now. I still need to do some work with the rest of it with the wippy black hose for the snorkel tube, but thats another story. It works though.

Cold air makes a noticiable difference. Ive never used a cold air type intake on a older car, but when I built my last Oldsmobile engine I filled the exhaust crossovers in the cylinder heads with aluminum so the hot exhuast can no longer run under the intake and warm the intake. Long story short, it made a huge difference especially after a long freeway run.

Yes, cold air is better, that's the reason all the HD diesel manufactures are using air to air aftercooling instead of air to water these days. Major difference in boost pressure and performance.
