frame swap 2wd to 4x4
Hello I have a 68 c10 lwb 2WD 1/2 ton and a buddy of mine has a k15 1984 gmc blazer with the 4.3 will it work I have never swapped frames before and some lingo is over my head so you might have to treat me like I am 2 and spell it out lol thank a head of time for your time

I think you've got a lot of work in front of you. The dimensions are completely different.
Here's a page with frame specs for I believe the 67-72 trucks, but I'm not sure. http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/framespecs.html

Find a 67-72 long bed frame. You should be able to pickup a rust bucket fairly cheap and then just swap your body on the chassis. If you find a 71 or 72, it may have disc brakes up front as well and most likely an NP205 transfercase. That should be more-or-less a bolt on process rather than some serious fabrication and frame lengthening you'll have with the late model Blazer frame.

Or just shorten the whole thing into a trazer on a blazer chassis

Ok then could I just add the np205 to my 2wd to convert it to 4wd ? and if so does anybody know where I can find a list of parts that I will need. I am not looking to buy parts at this time. So please do not post parts to sell

You'll need the front steering, leaf springs, engine cradle, cross member, transmission (or a short tail for your current assuming it is the same as what is mated to the transfercase), adapter, transfercase, drivelines, rear suspension & steering. You'll also need to move the engine back to the rear mounting holes (2" back to increase the front driveline length) and, if you have an automatic, find the 4wd shift linkages.
Short of just buying a 4wd truck, swapping your cab and bed on a frame is the easiest. LUV has a nice 4wd blazer chassis for sale. You could shorten your bed as he suggested and make a trazer. (truck on a blazer frame)

O I have a lot to think about I have almost 3 feet of snow and was thinking it would be nice to have a 4x4 right know lol
In fact it is still dumping more snow on me right know yuck more shoveling

see I can pickup a blazer frame running and driving for $350 it is a roll over thats what go my mind thinking about converting

If you have done a frame swap or a conversion to 4x4 I would like to hear about the good And the bad thing about doing it. How hard is it to cut the mount for the cab to weld it onto the new frame. It sounds good like every thing it always looks good on paper.

A swap to 4X4 is the way to go, use your 2wd frame and add the leaf spring hangers, etc to the 2wd frame and then you'll not have to hassle with the frame swap part. The leaf spring hangers are riveted on, cut the rivets, pull the hangers and put them on the 2wd frame, it is dimensionally the same (except the kick outs on the rear frame rails were the coils sat if it was a coil sprung 2wd? If not and it has rear leafs, you are halfway there!! Measure, measure measure and be sure everything is straight and square and it should be fairly straight forward.
On the other hand, a 4X4 frame is obviously the easiest way to go and there are quite a few 4X4 frames around (Short bed frames are kinda "rare" if you will but longbeds are out there). |

Your talking about cutting or grinding the rivets out of the leaf springs can I use bolt to put it on my frame or does it have to be rivets again? I understand that I will have to change the drive line length but will I need special cross member for the transmission and transfer case? I have one for a th350 is it the same ? and I have the v 8 towers for the motor mounts I just need to get a np 205 and the leaf springs axles and some luck in the weather
