Removing vents 55-59 Truck

Has anyone completely removed the fresh air vents and covered the holes up?

I think pugs did something like that on his '57, look up his build thread. Not sure if we're talking about the same thing though.

Re: Removing vents 55-59 Truck

it might have been him who swapped the 60-66 vents(im copying that as i have a spare 66' just sitting in my garage)

why would you want to get rid of them?

Re: Removing vents 55-59 Truck

You might want to keep access, over time small leaves, seed pods, water, etc. can get in there and sit in the bottom and rust out the hinge pocket, etc. I always made it a habit in the winter to pull the vent cover and stick the shop vac down there to suck up any loose stuff. Another over looked place is the bottom of the heater box, it will collect stuff too. Went the defroster quit working, there were enough maple seed pods to clog the box completely up! You could replace the louver covers with a blank plate or make a cover plate to cover the whole works, upolstry or carpet to match your interior.

Re: Removing vents 55-59 Truck

No going back, they're gone. Good idea about putting an access plate, I had to vacuum out a bunch of junk out of the drivers side. Fortunately, not a bunch of rust

I'm going to eventually put AC in this and I just didn't see the need for them. I think It will look a lot cleaner without them.

AC is it. I guess after living in hot places, I've kind of gotten spoiled.
