Carpet Install Questions

I’m getting ready to install a carpet made by Trim Parts. After doing a “dry run” I’m not sure how it is supposed to fit in terms of how high up the firewall it should go vs. how close it is supposed to fit to the back wall.

I removed all of the ac/heater box and the gas tank.

I’ve placed the carpet with the back edge butt up to the back wall (gas tank out)… and the front seems to fit a little low on the firewall (some exposed flooring at the top, 2-3 inches below firewall pad) and the hump portion doesn’t fit as well.

I’ve placed it higher up on the firewall (about 1-2 inches on the firewall pad) and it seems to fit the hump better as well as cover all the exposed floor, but the two pegs the gas pedal attaches to, hit right at the edge of the rubber heel pad and I would have to cut into that rubber about ¼ inch ….

I don’t even know if the gas tank is supposed to sit on top the carpet, or the excess should just climb up the side of the tank 3 or 4 inches.

Another thing is the carpet seems to be pretty loose on top of the hump…and I did get the correct (small hump) one.

Note:::> I’m laying down “fatmat” type (different brand) noise deadener also….

Thanks in advance for any/all help, advice, pictures etc. …. I was just going to install a new seat cover and now have every darn thing in the cab & dashboard removed, a pile of new parts and an empty wallet...

So I’ll have many more questions to follow… I don’t know what the heck came over me… you guys are a bad influence.

Re: Carpet Install Questions

Some carpet kits go from rear of cab and others go from tank forward. Mine went just to the tank and fit with no trimming.

Re: Carpet Install Questions

If I remember right, mine went just to the seat belt bolts... had to trim a little around the outside brackets
