My guess is you are going to have to apply for an assembled title, which means having it inspected by the state once it's done. Make sure you save your receipts, usually you can get a list of things you'll have to comply with from the DMV.

Call your local state police and they will tell you what needs to be done. If they dont know they will point you in the right direction.

Yeah, like they said ^^^....but be aware that they are probably going to want to know about that non-titled truck. Where it came from, proof of ownership, etc...

In NY ( used to live in NJ but never did that sort of thing there) they required you to bring a bill of sale for the body , a pencil etching of the vin tag on the new body ( you put a piece of paper over the vin tag and then use a lead pencil to make an exact copy of the vin) and they will run it to make sure its not a stolen truck.. then you can assemble it and then its gotta get inspected by the state and police to make sure its road worthy then they issue you a vin number which is used to title it... it loses all value as a collectible car and sometimes insurance companies give you a hard time too

Re: switching body on blazer what to do with title?

I did the same thing and had to remove the section of dash that had the vin attached and put it in the new body. Texas law is weird as that is legal and requires no additional paperwork but the paperwork and cost involved in switching the body and getting a new title would have been more than the blazer cost.
The body shop that helped with the swap took out the entire dash and stated that it had to be at least 8 to 12 inches of material surrounding the VIN be transfered for it to be legal in Texas. Like everyone one else in the thread so far..."please check your local laws/DOT/State police"

Re: switching body on blazer what to do with title?

Here's another solution. Just buy these rivets and switch your vin plates and be done with it. http://restorivets.com/ A little bit pricey for a couple of rivets, but a hell of a lot more conveinient than dealing with all the b.s. from trying to do it the "right" and "legal" way. No one but you will ever know. ...Joe
